Happy November Uber Riders!

What do think of save up to 30% on your uberX fares while helping #SolveTraffic in MNL?

This November 16th, Uber is implementing its new service — UberCOMMUTE.

What is UberCOMMUTE?

Basically, you can car lift with others who drive daily to work.

UberCOMMUTE enables people with vehicles (driver-commuters) who drive daily to and from work to share their ride with other Uber riders heading in the same direction.

This way, driver-commuters can recover some of their daily driving expenses (ex. Gas, toll, maintenance, etc) and share their daily drive to other Uber rider-commuters using vehicles that are already on the road. It’s a different riding experience, with drivers-commuters being fellow professionals sharing their drive socially. You can also refer to the FAQs at the end of the post.

If you ask us, a fun way to meet new people and make new friends, too!

How does UberCOMMUTE work for riders?

Rider-Commuters from the cities below will automatically see the uberCOMMUTE option on the Uber app, and can request for a ride just like they do for other Uber products.

For now, the service will only be available during morning rush hours (6am-10am) and evening rush hours (5pm-10pm) for trips going within, to, and from Manila, BGC and Makati.

You can save up to 30% off as compared to UberX because the fare that rider-commuters pay is just a share of the cost of the trip. Fare is ONLY based on the distance travelled and there’s no time component. This makes uberCOMMUTE one of the most affordable Uber options available.

NOTES:

  • You need to enter your destination so Uber can match you with a driver-commuter heading in the same direction.
  • You CANNOT change your pickup location or destination after you request, and each rider can have only ONE destination.
  • As a courtesy to the driver-commuter picking you up, your ride will only wait two minutes at your pickup location
  • You can bring up to one additional companion (for a maximum of 2 passengers). Multiple stops are NOT allowed.
  • You pay for tolls and your share of gas, making uberCOMMUTE one of our most affordable options yet!

After the initial pilot phase, we’ll be working to optimize and expand this revolutionary product to more driver-commuters and rider-commuters around the city. Stay tuned for updates.

Can I change my destination?

No, with uberCOMMUTE, the dropoff location you chose before requesting are fixed. Commuters are not allowed to change their destination after they have requested a ride. If a rider-commuter wants to change their destination, they must cancel their trip and request for another ride.

Will uberCOMMUTE be subject to dynamic (surge) pricing?

No, uberCOMMUTE will not be subject to surge pricing. Fares will be calculated based on distance travelled, combined with a base fare (no time component).

Will I be charged a cancellation fee?

Similar to other Uber products, you will be charged a cancellation fee. On uberCOMMUTE, a ₱50 fee will apply if you cancel your trip 5 or more minutes after requesting or if you don’t show up at the pick-up point.

How many riders are allowed at a time?

uberCOMMUTE allows the rider who booked to bring along 1 companion (maximum of 2 riders per pickup location). If two riders are picked up together, they must also be dropped off together. If more than two riders show up at a pickup point, kindly request that they cancel that trip and request an uberX.
